Cat6 twisted-pair cables have significantly improved parameters, and the bandwidth has been extended to 250MHz or more. It is so different from Cat5 or Cat5e twisted-pair cables in shape and structure. It not only adds the cross frame of insulation, but also places the four pairs of twisted pair in the four grooves of the cross frame to keep the best performance and decrease cross-talk. It supports frequencies up to 2.5 times that of Cat5e cables and can deliver up to 10,000 Mbps, or 10 gigabits per second. But the maximum length of it is still 100 meters.

The cables all meet the requirements of the TIA/EIA-568 standard. Cat6 cables offer an improved signal to noise ratio (SNR) and a better, cleaner signal with fewer errors. Cat6A goes one step beyond that for an even cleaner signal.
